My Nose Is Not For Marbles.
One day, Sammy Novice Junior realised, as all young children do, that he had holes in his nose, holes in his ears and a hole in his bottom that made marvelous noises when he walked! He liked that one best of all because it made his mother put her hand to her mouth and her eyes pop wide in surprise. That made him laugh a lot. Hairy dog, who was always by his side just got startled and cocked his head and ears at the little explosions!
Sammy didn't pay much attention to most of these holes as they didn't seem to have much purpose. Mostly he noticed that his mother was not happy about him putting his fingers up his nose in order to ger those lumpy green bits out. She was also not very happy when he put them in his mouth. She told him that it was not good for him and that it would make him sick. And she was right. Boogers are full of lots of little tiny germs and bacteria that are not good for tummies.
It wasn't until one day when Sammy was bored with playing with his toys and thought he had nothing to do, that he decided to explore the the holes in his body and see if he could maybe keep stuff in them.
Sammy thought that his nose would be a good place to hide his marbles from his little sister! He chose his favourite one, a beauty that was orange and gold inside! He tried to see if it would fit and found that he would have to push a little harder and POP! in it went. It felt really funny, a bit cold and quite smooth. He didn't stop to notice that he could not breath out of that nostril and quickly chose another of his favourite marbles. This time it was a beautiful dark blue one and without another thought he popped that one up his other nostril! Lucky he thought that noses have got two holes!!! By this time, Sammy was
making some funny pig like snorting out of his mouth because of course, his nose was blocked!!! Hairy Dog, just watched and thought "Goorrd Grrrief" and licked the slobber off of Sammys chin.
So, do you think Sammy Novice Junior was finished yet??? NO!! He remembered he had holes in his ears too! Quick as a flash he grabbed his best red marble and stuffed it into his one ear hole and the world started to go quiet. But he wasn't worried, he had another ear hole and another pretty marble he wanted to hide. By now Sammy was drooling out of his snorting mouth and spit was running off his chin. He looked a sight! Carefully he stuffed his green marble into his other ear hole and now the world did go quiet. Hairy Dog, just watched and thought "Goorrd Grrrief"
and licked the slobber off of Sammys chin.
Suddenly Sammy noticed he could hear his heart beat inside his head and it was throbbing like a little drum in his ears, badoomp, badoomp! His nose started to swell and his ears were starting to hurt, A LOT! He started to wail, very loudly! Hairy dog tried to help by licking Up his slobber and the tears that were now running in rivers down his red cheeks. He cocked his head back and forth between the door and Sammy's red screwed up face. He was looking to see if Sammy's mummy was going to come running. She always did when she heard her little boy crying.
Sure enough, before Sammy Novice Junior could let out his third wail, her kind face popped around the door. Hairy Dog was very pleased and his tail went thump, thump on the carpet. He licked Sammy's face from eyebrows to chin, to show that he was trying his best! "Come Sammy", she said in a calm and kind voice, "lets see what you've been up to".
Sammy rushed over and pushed his red face into his mothers lap, hiding in the folds of her skirt. She pulled his face up toward hers and she could see the two marbles hiding in his nose! "Well, I never!" She exclaimed, "that's no place for marbles"! Hairy Dog thumped his tail in approval! Carefully she managed to get Sammy to blow softly through his nose, whilst she gently pushed on the side of his nostrils to help the marbles pop back out his nose! Happily they both popped out like
corks from a vinegar bottle. Hairy Dogs tail thumped up and down on the carpet. Sammy was delighted to find he could breath again. But he still couldn't hear! He showed his mother his ears.Again she was very surprised to find that Sammy had put his marbles in his ears. "Heavens my child, that's no place to hide your marbles, no not at all! Ears are for listening"! Luckily for Sammy, the marbles were too big to right inside his ears and his mother was able to pull them out. Very lucky for him
they did not have to pay a visit to the doctor who would have been very surprised to see ears with marbles in them!
Sammy Novice Junior was so happy he could hear again and breath again. He told himself and his mother that he would never hide anything up his nose or in his ears again. He now knew that nose holes were for breathing and ear holes were for hearing. His Mummy also told him that his bottom hole was for pooping and not for anything else either. Imagine!! Hairy Dog put his paws over his eyes and thought "Goooorrd Grrrrief"!!
Sammy's mommy found a nice little box for his marbles and told him to put them on his top shelf to hide them from his little sister who was too small to play with marbles anyway!
