Gangs uniforms and Schools

Gangs uniforms Schools

Gangs uniforms Schools have become an evermore heated debate over the last decade or so. It seems to me to be ridiculous that we are even debating the wearing of school uniforms. Why did we need to re-invent the rat trap in the first place. No-one seemed to notice that dropping school uniforms in favour of individuality, was in fact throwing the baby out with the bath water. So keen were we to develop individuality we could not see the concept of learning go out with the water. How extraordinary it is to be discussing the merits of uniforms as apposed to very expensive brand name clothing and foot wear. The most obvious flaw in this thinking has been flaunted under our noses by our very own children. Encouraged to exhibit individuality they express the 'need' to have particular designer jeans, particular name brand sneakers, or any type of shoe that screams money. No ordinary school satchels for them to carry their cell phones and makeup in, only those satchels made by brands that have picked up on our folly, will do! And strangely they all want the same brands, or in order to keep their individuality they will choose another equally expensive brand name that is supposedly unique to their group of individual thinkers. In otherwords they are school kid gangs in street uniform. Is it any wonder that they are more interested in what their friends and enemies are wearing than school? Not really. School is difficult enough without throwing rivalry over bling, clothes, hair do's, cell phones and ipods etc. into the mix. Teachers are battling for their attention which is taken up with texting mates about the fat cow that hasn't got the right school bag etc, or filming someone getting slapped by what goes for the class clown and humour these days. Um! Anyone see a problem here??

Gangs uniforms Schools is an interchangeable concept. Gangs today wear their own uniforms as dictated by the code of the gang that they hang with, I can't see a lot of individulaity going on there. School uniforms are for 'gangs of particular schools' who tend to be better behaved than the generic moody faces of come as you are kids. The same kids who in spite of the amount of time spent looking in the mirror still have hair that is glued up or down by hair gels, who also spend a good portion of theirs and the teachers' time pulling up jeans that are just short of falling down completely, or in the case of girls, plumping up their breasts in their low cut tops every five minutes and in the case of both sexes restyling the "do" anytime they catch a reflection of themselves. It is an elementary fact that kids allowed the choice of whether to listen or play, sit up or slump, pay attention or be the centre of attention, will choose the latter every time, 'cos' they are kids!! Thats what kids do!! Adults should know better and yet here we are still debating the issue whilst more and more kids are being pushed through the system like beauty school drop outs, yes their hair and clothes are enviable to some. Imagine how confusing school must be for them. We have not made it easier by giving them choices in what to wear, how to style hair everyday and put on make-up. We have even made it dificult to just sit in class and listen because we have allowed phones in the classroom. Kids sit and text their mates under the desk, send jokes and share them with other students who also lose the option to listen to what is being taught. We then have the cheek to wonder why our kids are doing so badly in elementary math and language. Media is becoming an ever popular class because kids know that they can spend time in class trawling the internet and chatting on Face Book to their 3,000 friends. The more crowded the classroom and the more unruly it is, the easier it is to get away with texting and surfing the net.

Even schools that have kept the uniform but allowed it to be corrupted for the sake of individuality, are falling far behind the private schools that insist on their schools being a place for learning, and which instil pride in the uniform and motto. If, as we are forced to believe that kids cannot express themselves whilst having to wear uniforms, then how is it, that these same kids are proud to wear the colours of a gang or even a football team? Are these not uniforms? If more than three people wear the same type of outfits for a purpose they become gangs in uniforms.

When we send our kids to school we expect them to focus on school and lessons, not on fashion or gangs, and whose who in the playground. In class we expect that they will be paying attention to the teachers, not texting mates in another class room or the truants outside of school. This is the place that can make or break our children in the wider world of careers and jobs. Popping out the other end like a post toastie, with no reading, writing and basic math skills, should not ever, be an option. There are kids in third world countries who leave school with a better education than too many kids in first world countries. They are keen to learn and have great pride in their Gangs uniforms Schools! It is only poverty and ignorance that leaves a lot of these kids on the way side, and this is not the sort of poverty that can be classified as equal to poverty in the UK or the US of A or indeed any other first world country.

Gangs uniforms Schools, should relate to our 'gangs' of mom and dad, teachers, and proper school uniforms not bandanas, Nike trainers and bags or whatever other brand is the latest fad and/or street gang signature. Most of us parents are serious about our gangs education and will do what ever it takes to get them into a good school with a good record. The difficulty of getting kids into good schools due to the areas in which people live, is a real one and a problem that I believe parents should tackle head on by getting involved in the school politics and sitting in on the teacher/parent meetings and boards. It is not right to have to suffer the consequences of living in good or bad zones. Every school should deliver its promise to educate kids to their best ability. One way of tackling this is through school uniforms, with the back up of parents. it has been shown that this small change/discipline has a large effect on attitude. Other benefits include less expense, by not having to provide brand name clothing, no one upmanship between pupils, kids getting dressed faster in the mornings and stealing less, as in earings, lipstick, money etc. The street gang is left out of school as long as the uniform is worn properly, which means ties are done up properly, belts sit in the middle, uniform hair cut for boys and styles for girls. No brand name shoes.

There is more information and discussion on the web about Gangs uniforms Schools, but unfortunately not a lot regarding the UK. However school is school the world over, and if schools find success in certain rules and regulations, they can be adapted anywhere, where there is a similar problem.

I have added a link from Gangs Uniforms Schools, to a site regarding uniforms; 'uniformus' at the bottom of this page for further information on uniforms and attitudes.
